Gorilla trekking in Virunga national park resumed officially this year (2017) in May which becomes a major breakthrough in this part of the country and with a great moment of excitement after over a year of closure, due to endless security turmoil that had frequented this park for years between the Congo army and some rebel factions which prevented the activities of gorilla trekking in this unexplored destination.

Gorilla trekking takes place in Mikeno area, close to the park headquarters about two hours’ drive from gateway town of Goma.
